Pop Culture and me

So what exactly is pop culture? How do you know what it is?

Well let me tell you. Pop culture is anything and everything that is popular with a group. Pop culture is not something that only "the cool kids" in high school were a part of. If you like something and a group of people like it too then it is pop culture. I love bicycles and things related to that. It may not be popular with you but it's popular with me and the thousands of other cyclists in the world. That means I am part of pop culture!!!

What do you like? If its something other people like as well then it is popular!

There are many popular cultures in the world. Mine is bikes, whats yours?

  1. I like the way you interpret pop-culture...because I'm tired to hear Japan's pop-culture is Anime or Otaku thing...I think there are some other good things in Japan :P

  2. I like to play chess and also follow the international chess scene. I would feel strange to call this pop culture though. Sure it is popular for those who have the chess bug.

But it seems to me that the term pop culture ought to connote something that has widespread acceptance among a broad audience. I also think it should include the fact that it often becomes a commodity whose appeal owes to its "newness."

I'm not sure if my ideas make sense or would stand up to careful scrutiny. But it's the best I've got for now.
