I would feel strange to call this pop culture though. Sure it is popular for those who have the chess bug.<br /><br />But it seems to me that the term pop culture ought to connote something that has widespread acceptance among a broad audience. I also think it should include the fact that it often becomes a commodity whose appeal owes to its "newness."<br /><br />I'm not sure if my ideas make sense or would stand up to careful scrutiny.
